This section of the program supports commercial art galleries in the organization of exhibitions and in their activities related to the promotion and market entry of works by professional artists from Quebec. It also encourages the presentation of works by little-known or avant garde artists that would otherwise represent a financial risk for the gallery.


  • Applicants may apply to Section 1 of the program only or Sections 1 and 2 simultaneously
  • Applicants must be a for-profit company for which the primary establishment is in Quebec and the primary activity is the trade of cutting-edge contemporary art
  • Cutting-edge contemporary art is defined as a recent creation that explores new and original avenues in the various fields of the visual arts
  • Applicants must be active for at least two years and have a member of management staff with at least three years of experience in the administration and management of an organization whose activities are related to the trade of contemporary art
  • Applicants must operate permanent facilities that are arranged for the primary purpose of exhibition and are accessible to the public at least four days a week during normal business hours
  • Applicants must represent the work of at least eight professional artists residing in Quebec
  • Applicants must organize six individual or group exhibitions each year comprised of professional artists residing in Quebec
  • Applicants must be able to finance at least 50% of the eligible costs for each project presented to SODEC
  • Applicants must commit to following the Act respecting the professional status of artists in the visual arts, arts and crafts and literature, and their contracts with promoters (L.R.Q., c.S-32.01)
  • For companies that have received a grant during the preceding financial year, a summary of activities must be submitted along with a detailed report on expenses incurred, in addition to the requisite supporting documents
  • Eligible activities include:
  • Exhibitions, activities related to market entry, or advertising projects proposed by the commercial gallery for professional artists residing in Quebec

  • Activities intended to make better known the works of professional artists residing in Quebec

  • The development of promotional tools (catalogues, brochures, websites, etc.) for professional artists residing in Quebec and their works

Eligible Expenses

  • Expenses directly related to the presentation and promotion of exhibitions or activities, including costs related to framing and mounting, vernissages, publicity, or printing (flyers, brochures, booklets, catalogues)
  • Any other expenses deemed essential to the realization of the project(s)

Supporting Documents

  • Declaration form for the applicant company
  • A list of professional artists residing in Quebec that are represented by the applicant company
  • Itemized budget
  • A list of exhibitions
  • A summary dossier for each artist, including a curriculum vitae or catalogue as well as a maximum of ten images with descriptions
  • Signed copies of the contracts established with the artists
  • Company charter or registration
  • Information on shareholders/directors
  • Financial statements
  • Master file, including:
  • Organizational structures for the applicant company and, if applicable, any affiliated companies, including shareholders

  • Curriculum vitae of the applicant company’s executives

  • Document(s) certifying that a member of the management staff has at least years of experience in the administration and management of an organization with activities related to the trade of contemporary art

  • A description of activities and accomplishments
