This program helps artists and curators participate in professional development activities to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to advance in their careers. Professional development projects may involve artistic practice or career management.


  • Eligibility criteria:
  • Only individuals who carry out on their own an activity covered are eligible for financial aid.

  • Previous applicants to CALQ programs are automatically eligible for this program.

  • First time applicants must have participated in at least one production independent of or subsequent to education, have produced and disseminated at least one work of art publicly, or have published, at least one book or three texts in a literary genre eligible for the CALQ in a context recognized by peers.

  • Applicants cannot have more than five separate applications and receive a maximum of five grants per CALQ fiscal year, from April 1st to March 31st

  • Applicants cannot have more than three projects being considered, supported or under way at the same time.

  • Eligible projects:
  • Professional development activities

  • Participation in specialized workshops

  • Attendance at seminars, symposiums, festivals, biennials, colloquiums, etc.

  • Artistic practice development activities

  • Invitation to an artist or an arts professional to draw on their expertise and share it with artists or curators from Québec.

  • Ineligible projects:
  • Basic training projects.

  • Projects to obtain a degree from the Ministère de l’Éducation et Enseignement supérieur at a college, university or specialized school.

  • Training projects eligible for Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) programs.

  • Participation as a resource person in colloquiums, seminars or other events. These projects may be eligible for travel grants.

Eligible Expenses

  • Candidate’s remuneration
  • Expenses related to completing the project, such as registration, internship or materials expenses or a professor’s or mentor’s fees
  • Travel and related expenses such as vaccination and visa costs
  • Living expenses (hotel and meals): maximum of $125 per day per participant in Canada and $200 per day per participant outside of Canada.
