Description

This residency program is intended to foster the creation of durable bonds and encourage the cross-fertilization of artistic approaches among creators from Québec, Brazil and elsewhere. It also strives to promote the work and career development of Québec artists abroad and cultivate new channels for artistic creation, production and dissemination.

Offered annually, this collaboration will enable two artists or writers from Québec to participate in a two-month sojourn at the Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia and enjoy opportunities for professional interaction which may benefit their careers. Known for its open doors to diversity, this residency will surely enhance creative development and the evolution of artistic approaches through exposure to other participant artists and thinkers.

A studio-apartment and access to work spaces will be made available to the Québec artists and writers in residence.

Information of the host institution

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, present in over 90 countries. Starting in 2016, the institute hosts 20 artists yearly from all disciplines combined, half of whom will be Brazilian nationals.

The artists will be housed in loft-style studio-apartments with access to a collective kitchen and shared services. The institute also features a small café open to the public, a patio, a multipurpose space (black box), two gallery spaces, a library and several classrooms.

The artists in residence can develop their projects within the institute and take advantage of the facilities available to them (exhibition spaces, auditorium, theatre, etc.). They can also collaborate with the local universities and institutions as well as the independent art scene. Resident artists are not obliged to produce a complete work. They will however be strongly encouraged to share their artistic approach with the local artists and community of Salvador de Bahia.

PLEASE NOTE THAT STUDIO AND RESIDENCY PROGRAMS DIFFER CONSIDERABLY IN DURATION, DEADLINES AND SEASON IN WHICH THEY OCCUR. WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE THIS PLATFORM FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES AND TO REVIEW ALL DETAILS ON THE CALQ WEBSITE.
