Description

This component of the Culture in the Schools program allows students to participate, for an extended period of four to 12 weeks, in a project involving artistic exploration. It also offers professional artists or writers an opportunity to spend time in the school environment and to find inspiration there for their own creative pursuits.

Criteria

  • To be eligible, projects must:
  • Start and finish during the same school year

  • Involve the participation of a cultural partner (in the same or a neighbouring region) who is listed in the Répertoire culture-éducation

  • Last from four to 12 weeks (a week is equal to 20 hours, consecutive or not, spent at the school during a single week)

  • Include artistic exploration work by the students and involve the active participation of the teacher and the artist or writer

  • Include a personal creative work that enables the artist or writer to develop his or her creative process

  • Take place primarily during regular school hours

  • The following activities are not eligible:
  • Activities focused solely on teaching students a technique or theoretical knowledge

  • Exchange trips and practicums

  • Fundraising activities for a school or school board project (e.g. benefit show, fundraiser)

Eligible Expenses

  • Cultural partners’ fees (up to $1,000 per week before taxes)
  • Accommodation and travel expenses (maximum $375 per week), including expenses incurred during planning and coordination meetings; these expenses must be necessary for the project and approved in advance by the educational institution
  • Cost of materials and equipment rentals that used by the cultural partner or by students and that are directly related to the project (maximum of $425 per week), not including permanent equipment that must be provided by the school or the artist or writer; these expenses must be necessary for the project and approved in advance by the educational institution
  • Administrative charges incurred by the school or school board, including the cost of release time for teachers to plan and follow up on the project (maximum of $175 per week)
  • Administrative costs associated exclusively with a project and assumed by a cultural organization, not including the organization’s general operating expenses are not allowable (maximum of $35 per week)
