This section of the program supports Quebec publishing companies in the translation of Quebec literary works. Funding applies to editing and translation fees.

  • Applicants must:
  • Be a certified Quebec publishing company or eligible for certification with the Ministry of Culture and Communications

  • Present a translation project for a work by a Quebec author, from French to English, English to French, or either English or French to any other language

  • Translation of the work cannot already be complete at the time of the application
  • The original version of the work must have been published and distributed in Quebec
  • For works published simultaneously in English and French, an application can be submitted during the manuscript phase
  • Works must fall under an eligible category, such as poetry, theatre, novel, illustrated children’s book, art book, comic, social science essay, or a collection of songs
  • School textbooks and self-published works are ineligible
  • Publishing companies must allocate funds representing 25% of the estimated budget
  • If the publishing company will be publishing the translated work itself, it must do so within one year and have access, either directly or through a third party, to a distribution network in the target markets
  • If the publishing company will not publish the translated work itself, it must have signed an agreement assigning the rights to a foreign publisher; the translated work must then be published within two years of the signature of the contract
  • Projects for translation to French, English, or an Indigenous language that are already supported through Canadian public funding are ineligible
