Description

This section of the program is intended for Quebec companies holding distribution rights or the majority of distribution rights in Quebec for a given film. It seeks to encourage initiatives, put in place by distributors and producers that aim to promote and accelerate the access to Quebec films for their intended audiences in all regions of the province.

Criteria

  • Companies applying to this section of the program for the first time must contact SODEC beforehand to determine their eligibility by indicating:
  • Their distribution activities over the two preceding years

  • The revenues from each film they distributed over the two preceding years

  • SODEC prioritizes films in which it has already invested during production
  • Eligible films include fiction, documentaries and animation, of short-, medium-, or feature-length, with less than 35 screening copies shown in commercial theatres
  • SODEC recovers up to 100% of its financial contribution as follows:
  • An amount equal to 40% of its contribution when ticket sales reach $350,000

  • An amount equal to 10% of its contribution for each additional sum of $50,000 in ticket sales, up to the total reimbursement of its contribution once ticket sales reach $650,000

  • Applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm the day before the release of the film at the latest; if costs for other eligible screening copies are added after this deadline, the application may be amended within five weeks of the film’s release date

Eligible Expenses

  • Virtual print fees (VPF) and costs related to creating digital copies (Digital Cinema Package – DCP) destined for theatres in the regions (that is, outside of Montreal, Laval and the agglomeration of Longueuil), up to 12 copies (when the release is simultaneous to the release in Montreal) or 10 copies (when the release is within five weeks of the release in Montreal)
